Height - Front Yard

Side and rear yards: 6 ft max. 4 ft max where a side yard runs along a street or a neighbor's front yard. Commercial and mixed use: 6 ft in any yard. Industrial: 8 ft.
Height Notes
Height is measured from the highest grade to the highest point of the fence, including posts and decorative caps. Fences the code specifically requires for screening, pools or similar purposes may exceed these limits.
Corner Lots

Materials Allowed
For homes the code names chain link, ornamental metal, ornamental masonry and ornamental wood. Chain link is prohibited inside the Downtown Business District: the area bounded by Princeton Avenue, Main Street, Camp Creek Parkway and College Street, plus Main Street north of Princeton. Sec. 5-342.

Historic Districts
No Certificate of Appropriateness. The city code creates no historic preservation commission and no historic district design review. Fence design is reviewed two other ways. New residential development needs City Planner sign-off on a plan book, and the plan book covers fencing: Zoning Sec. 6.13. Downtown Business District: every property inside the boundary follows Chapter 5 Article XVI, which bans plastic, vinyl, chain link and wire fencing.
Setbacks

Design Requirements
Finished side (no visible posts or rails) faces out. Fences must be properly built and kept in sound condition. A dilapidated, unsound or unsightly fence is unlawful.
Gates
The fence ordinance does not cover gates. Pool gates: if you will be away from the property for 30 days or more, every gate in the pool fence must be locked so it cannot be opened from the outside. Swimming Pool Code Sec. 5-242.
