How to get a fence permit in Georgia

   Check HOA and property restrictions

   Review any HOA covenants, recorded easements, and plat conditions tied to your property. These can be stricter than local ordinances and are yours to confirm — they are not part of the permit your city or county issues.

   Prepare your application

   Most jurisdictions ask for a site plan showing your property lines and the proposed fence's location, height, and materials. Some also require a property survey or a signed owner affidavit.

   Submit to your local permitting office

   File the application with your city or county building or community development department and pay any fee. Some jurisdictions issue residential fence permits the same day.

   Confirm, then build

   Verify the approved height, setbacks, and any conditions with the permitting office before installation. The homeowner is responsible for building the fence to the approved permit and property lines.
