Permit Requirements
Fence permit required for all new fences and replacements. Additional approvals required when: (1) adjoining public right-of-way, (2) in 75-ft stream buffer, or (3) in Chattahoochee River corridor (within 2,000 ft). Permit fee: $75 residential, $100 commercial + $50 admin fee.
Height - Front Yard
8 ft max from grade. Column/ornament heights may extend up to 3 ft above max.
Height - Side/Rear
8 ft max from finished grade
Height Notes
Sec. 4.11.E: Fences/walls max 8 ft in residential districts. Column and ornament heights may exceed max by up to 3 ft. Many HOAs have stricter limits.
Corner Lots
Visibility triangle requirements per Subdivision Regulations. Must not obstruct sight distance.
Materials Allowed
Standard residential materials. Finished side must face neighboring property.
Materials Prohibited
Wire/plastic/chain-link prohibited adjoining street ROW (except AG-1, M-1, M-1A zones). Barbed wire prohibited on single-family lots.

Min 3 ft from public ROW. Min 3-ft landscape strip required between fence and ROW.
Design Requirements
Sec. 4.11.D: Finished side toward neighbor. Pool fences: no bright/primary colors. Solid/opaque fences must be visually impenetrable.
Gates
Sec. 4.11.B: No gate within 20 ft of public ROW. Gate must not obstruct ROW or sight distance when open, closed, or intermediate.

ARC approval required within 2,000 ft of Chattahoochee River. 50-ft undisturbed buffer, 25-ft impervious setback from waters of the state.
