Design Requirements
Every fence or wall goes through the city's architectural review. Design should match the main building's architecture and use similar materials. A wall or fence 50 ft or longer and 4 ft or taller should avoid a monotonous look: changes in height, depth, material, texture, or heavy landscaping. In the MDR medium density residential district, every home must have a private yard or patio of at least 400 sq ft in the side or rear yard. If you enclose it, the masonry wall, wood fence, trellis or lattice must be at least 6 ft tall, or use an evergreen hedge, shrubs or trees that reach 6 ft within three years. UDC Sec. 2-14.
