Permit Requirements
Contact Community Development at (770) 943-1666 for permit requirements. UDC Section 4-135 governs. Fences >3 ft within setbacks and within 6 ft of ROW require variance.
Height - Front Yard
Residential districts: 3 ft max, and a front-yard fence/wall requires special use approval (Table 4-1). Mixed-use, office, and commercial districts: 6 ft. Light and heavy industrial: 8 ft. Community Development Director may vary height up to 2 ft.
Height - Side/Rear
Residential, mixed-use, office, and commercial districts: 6 ft max. Light and heavy industrial districts: 8 ft max (Table 4-1). Director may vary up to 2 ft.
Height Notes
Per UDC Sec. 4-135 and Table 4-1. No fence or wall in the public right-of-way (retaining walls and entrance monuments may be, with Community Development and Public Works approval). Vehicular gates must be at least 25 ft from the street right-of-way. Subdivision/project entrance walls max 8 ft (columns max 10 ft). Tennis court fencing may exceed these limits.

Materials Allowed
Solid wood, PVC with wood-like finish, picket, split rail, wrought iron / aluminum / approved metal, vinyl-coated chain-link, and block walls with brick or stone facing. Picket and split rail are not allowed in industrial districts.
Materials Prohibited
Unfinished or exposed concrete block, plain (non-coated) chain-link in residential and commercial districts, tires, junk, and electrically charged fences. Barbed or razor wire allowed only in heavy industrial rear yards.
