Permit Requirements
Mableton assumed its own permitting as of March 2025. All permits submitted online via CloudPermit portal. Under Cobb County baseline (Sec. 134-267), residential fences under 6 ft did not require a permit — confirm with Mableton whether this carries forward. Height - Front Yard
6 ft max adjacent to public road ROW or in front/side of house (per Cobb County Sec. 134-267 baseline). Verify with city — Mableton's own zoning code (adopted 2024) may differ.
Height - Side/Rear
8 ft max (per Cobb County Sec. 134-267 baseline). 6 ft max if adjacent to public road ROW. Height includes posts and ornaments. Verify with city for any Mableton-specific amendments.
Height Notes
Mableton incorporated Nov 2022, assumed zoning/code enforcement March 2025. City adopted its own zoning code (Appendix A, first read May 2024) which may have fence provisions that differ from Cobb County Sec. 134-267. Height measured from existing grade on both sides. No more than 6 inches of backfill against fence (included in height measurement). Mableton Form-Based Code (Sec. 134-286 overlay) may have additional requirements for properties in redevelopment area.
Corner Lots
Sight/visibility triangle: fences within 25 ft of street intersections cannot exceed 3 ft. Side yards facing streets follow front yard limits (6 ft max).

Wood, vinyl, aluminum, chain link (per Cobb County baseline)
Materials Prohibited
Barbed wire, razor wire, and electric fencing prohibited in residential areas (per Cobb County Sec. 134-267 baseline).

No setback from property line required — fences can be placed on property line with neighbor agreement. Recommended 6 inches to 1 ft for maintenance access. Cannot be placed in utility easements (commonly 10 ft). 25-foot undisturbed stream buffer — no fencing allowed.

Retaining Walls
Retaining wall height can increase an additional 5 ft per each additional 5 ft setback from property line, with approved landscape buffer. Combined fence + retaining wall over 7 ft requires permit.
