Permit Requirements
Building permits required. Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) adopted August 2022. Contact Bainbridge-Decatur County Planning at (229) 248-2000.
Height - Front Yard
No dedicated residential fence height limit in UDO. Fences addressed for specific uses only.
Height - Side/Rear
Outside storage screening fences: min 5 ft, max 8 ft (Sec. 5.01.04.A).
Height Notes
UDO (237 pages) defines fences but has no general residential fence height table. Fences not considered encroachments of setbacks (Sec. 4.01.02.E). Sight distance: no obstruction between 3-15 ft height within 20 ft of intersection.
Pool Fences
Corner Lots
No fence or obstruction within sight line triangles at intersections (Sec. 4.01.02.A).
Materials Allowed
Wood, masonry, stone, wire, iron, or other approved materials. Commercial corridor: wood, metal, or vinyl only.
Materials Prohibited
Commercial corridors: exposed concrete block, tires, junk or discarded materials (Sec. 4.03.07).
Setbacks
Fences not considered encroachments of setbacks (Sec. 4.01.02.E).
Design Requirements
Junkyards must be fenced/screened. RV park buffer fences min 6 ft, opaque. Detention ponds >3 ft deep require min 4 ft chain-link fence.
Gates
Detention pond fences must include gate min 10 ft width for maintenance.
