Permit Requirements
Permit required for all fences and walls (UDO Section 25.1). Contact Planning & Zoning at 912-756-3345 for easement check before building.
Height - Front Yard
4 feet maximum in required front yard. 3 feet maximum within clear vision corner triangle.
Height - Side/Rear
6 feet maximum in side and rear yards, measured from natural grade to uppermost portion.
Height Notes
Corner lots and through lots: front yard height (4 ft) applies to each yard abutting a street. 8-foot security fences allowed in commercial/industrial districts.
Pool Fences
Corner Lots
Front yard fence height (4 ft max) applies to each front yard of a corner lot or through lot. 3 ft max within clear vision corner.
Materials Allowed
Wood, vinyl, wrought iron, aluminum, and other standard fencing materials allowed in side/rear yards.
Materials Prohibited
Chain link prohibited in front yards of residential districts (unless black vinyl coated around retention pond/public facility). Barbed wire prohibited in residential. Razor wire and electrification prohibited in all districts.
Setbacks
Fences shall not be erected within any public right-of-way or easements (Section 12.5A.4).
Design Requirements
Finished side of fence must face adjoining property (Section 12.5A.5).
