Permit Requirements

Height - Front Yard
36 in max: three feet, not four. Applies to any lot not zoned industrial. Every fence needs a permit, so a front-yard fence built to 4 ft will be caught at inspection.
Height - Side/Rear
6 ft max in most cases. Up to 8 ft only along a lot line or alley where a home borders business, commercial or industrial property. Industrial property: 10 ft max.
Height Notes
The 36 in front-yard limit is the number most often gotten wrong for Newnan; the 6 ft cap applies elsewhere on the lot. Temporary construction fences up to 8 ft are allowed anywhere. Open mesh fences around parks, recreation areas and schools have no height limit. The code doesn't say how fence height is measured. A fence legally standing before the rule took effect may stay and be repaired or replaced in kind.
