Fence Regulations

Unincorporated Turner County

Permit Requirements
Building permit required for structures. Fences and walls are explicitly not considered 'structures' under the ordinance.
Height - Front Yard
4 ft max in front yard (Section 3-16).
Height - Side/Rear
8 ft max within or along boundary of rear or side yard in any residential district (Section 3-16).
Height Notes
Fences are not considered encroachments of yards (Section 3-5). Fences explicitly excluded from definition of 'structure.'
Corner Lots
No fence or other obstruction shall exceed 3 ft within triangular area formed by intersection of ROW lines and points 20 ft from intersection (Section 3-12).
Materials Allowed
Standard residential fencing materials. Screening fences: durable masonry wall, or fence and hedge providing visual blind.
Setbacks
Fences are not considered encroachments of yards (Section 3-5).
Design Requirements
Screening fences: 6-8 ft height, durable masonry wall or fence/hedge providing visual blind. Hedges must reach 6 ft average height within 3 years. Required buffers in RC, GB, WLI, HI districts abutting residential.
