Gap under it: 2 in max over grass, 4 in over concrete; Gate: opens outward, self-closing and self-latching; Openings: 4 in max, or 1 3/4 in for chain link, lattice and any fence whose rails sit under 45 in apart, which puts its rails on the pool side.

Height Notes
Height is measured from the average finished ground level next to the house. A fence within 5 ft of the top of a retaining wall follows these same limits. Within 10 ft of the front property line, wall and fence together: 2 ft of wall and 4 ft of fence. Elsewhere in the front yard: 4 ft each, 6 ft together. Back yard: 8 ft each, 12 ft together, and any part above 10 ft must be see-through along at least half the fence's length. A temporary chain link security fence up to 6 ft may stand for 30 days before and after construction or demolition.

Materials Allowed
Front yard: ornamental or decorative brick, stone, stucco, split rail, wood, aluminum or wrought iron, at least 50 percent see-through. Interior side yards and back yard: no material list. Chain link or other metal fencing there must be vinyl-coated, powder-coated or galvanized.
Materials Prohibited
Barbed wire, except in the two industrial zones (CP-GI, CP-HI). Front yard: wire, woven metal and chain link (except in those industrial zones), plus exposed block, tires, junk and other discarded material. Barbed wire, razor wire and chain link may not be visible from a public plaza, a sidewalk-level outdoor dining area, a street or the public right-of-way.
Historic Districts
A certificate of appropriateness from the Historic Preservation Commission comes before a fence goes up inside a designated historic district, the Downtown historic district included, or on a designated historic property. The zoning fence rules still apply. LaGrange UDO Sec. 25B-65-10
Setbacks
The fence may not extend into the public right-of-way. A fence touching any street: the city must fix the street boundary lines first. Ask Community Development at 706-883-2060 before building on a side or rear line. The code's yard encroachment clause lists fencing among features that may reach 3 ft into a required setback while staying 3 ft off a side or rear line, and the city has not said how that reads for a boundary fence. Design Requirements
Finished side out: supports face inward to your own property. Posts set in concrete and kept vertical, even where the fence steps down a slope. Keep the fence in good repair. Front yard: ornamental or decorative and at least 50 percent see-through.
Gates
None. The city code sets no gate rule for a home fence. Pool gates follow the state pool code.
Floodplain Rules
In a mapped flood hazard area a city development permit comes before any man-made change to the land, and an elevation certificate is needed at application. In the floodway, no new construction unless an engineer certifies it will not raise flood levels or widen the floodway. LaGrange UDO Secs. 25C-25-12, 25C-25-31(4)

None. The city code sets no fence color rule.
