Permit Requirements
No permit required for fences up to 6 feet in side/rear. Fences greater than 6 feet require permit from Zoning Administrator. Chain-link not permitted in front yard.
Height - Front Yard
42 inches (3.5 feet) maximum. Chain-link fencing not permitted in front yard of residential lots.
Height - Side/Rear
6 feet without a permit. Greater than 6 feet requires Zoning Administrator permit.

No fence shall obstruct visibility at street intersections or driveways
Materials Allowed
Materials compatible with residential character
Materials Prohibited
Exposed concrete block, tires, junk, or other discarded materials. Chain-link not permitted in front yard. Barbed wire not permitted except where livestock is lawfully housed.
Setbacks
Masonry/rock walls: 1 foot from side/rear property line for maintenance (or on property line with written agreement from both owners). Fences: 1 foot from side/rear property line (or on property line with agreement).
Design Requirements
Front yard fences/walls must present a finished and attractive surface to the street.
Gates
Pool gates must have lock/latch and open outward from pool
Retaining Walls
Masonry/rock walls must be 1 foot from property line or have written agreement
Notes
Monroe County seat (~4,300 pop). Detailed fence rules: 42in front (no chain-link), 6ft side/rear. Pool fence requires 4ft min with gate alarm if attached to house. 1ft setback or agreement for on-line.
